On the 14th October the 2017 Autumn league got underway with an away draw at the Braunstone Leisure Centre. The format of this league is similar to all Leicester Leagues in that the 25-30 clubs are split into a random open draw at round 1 with limited seeding– then you are seeded for round 2 to try and keep apart the top seeds from round 1 – with points earned from the first two round determining what level final you arrive in come December.
Last year the club had visited the same venue in December to swim in their first ever major full squad final. That final was won by Rushden SC, who held off strong opposition from Nuneaton SC. Burton had come an amazing 5th of the 30 clubs in the league 2016.
The draw appeared hard to say the least – not only had we got an away draw we also faced both the top 2 clubs from 2016 in Nuneaton and Rushden. The draw also put us against Braunstone C, Wellingborough B, Sharks D and Coalville B. There are 4 age groupings all at age at the 31/12/17 – being age 10, 12, 14 and over 14 (open).
With all Leicester League formats the rules are simple – you cannot swim in round 3 if you have not swam in an earlier round. With this in mind we chose more swimmers rather than the usual c32.
Competitive debuts on the night went to Edan Maxwell and Mary Duggan. Autumn League debuts for Charlie Miller, Scarlett Perry, Jaina Muogbo, Bella Smith, Lucas Joubert, Oliver Frost and Jasper Saunders.
Races for age 10 are 25m, age 12 are 50m and the older age groups are mainly 100m.

Massive thank you to Ian and Simon being poolside and encouraging the kids. Also thank you to Bev, Martin, Simon, Donna and Dave for the officiating/timing – and for Sarah for help sending the kids to the races
31 PB times including relay splits – just 2 DQ – and a night with a few more twists than we are used to !!!
STAR SWIMMER – joint to Tom Mitchell for his amazing times last night and Matt Gates for covering other races on top of his busy schedule to the illness during the gala.
Special mention to a few of the older kids – like Emma Preston and Sophie who took on a captains role of trying to make sure the little kids knew what races etc they faced last night.
The next round is on November 11th – please look out for invites as we are keen to build on this success – the Top 8 teams attend the main final and we hope for a kind draw!!!!
