On the 13th October the 2018 Autumn league got underway with an away draw at the Meadowside Leisure Centre. The format of this league is similar to all Leicester Leagues in that the 25-30 clubs are split into a random open draw at round 1 with limited seeding– then you are seeded for round 2 to try and keep apart the top seeds from round 1 – with points earned from the first two round determining what level final you arrive in come December.

Last year the club had made the major final for the second consecutive year. This year we took a huge step forward as a club and moved to fielding a second competitive team for the first time in our history.

The draw appeared to put Hinckley B and Burton A as favourites for first place – both having made the final last year – in addition to Coalville B, Shepshed and the debutant team of Burton B. There are 4 age groupings all at age at the 31/12/18 – being age 10, 12, 14 and over 14 (open).

With all Leicester League formats the rules are simple – you cannot swim in round 3 if you have not swam in an earlier round. Races for age 10 are 25m, age 12 are 50m and the older age groups are mainly 100m.

Going into the first race we had a new team motto – TWO LANES BUT ONE CLUB – and the kids all cheered on friends in either lane throughout what was one of the best nights BASC has ever had.

Fielding two teams and hosting meant we needed more support than ever – so massive thank you to Ian, Simon, Mary, Jo, Andy and Brian for being poolside and encouraging the kids.

Also thank you to
– Craig, Paul, Bev, Martin, Chris, Debbie, Helen, David, Steve, Jo, Jason and Dave/Jane for the officiating/timing
– To the sending team of Lee, Simon, Karen, Paul, Rachel and Nicky – thank you so much – lots of very excited kids to get to the right place at the right time!!!
– Donna for announcing in brilliant fashion.
– Colin, Suzanne and Jane for the scoring table.
– The parents for all the cheering and support of both our lanes last night

A TEAM Highlights 44 PB times and only 1 DQ

STAR SWIMMER – Immy Hill – who won all 3 of her races and all in PB times

STAR RACE – George Greener and Ella Cooper – for the amazing PB times when winning age 14 100m free

Special mention to Ella Cooper, Brieana Shrive and Sophie Fowkes for swimming up age groups to keep the balance of the team right – which led to more first place team finishes

B TEAM Highlights53 PB times and just 2 DQ

STAR SWIMMER – joint to Ellie Smith and Paige Colling – who both swam PB times throughout

STAR RACE – Jonny Stimpson (age 10 25m breast) who was the only B team swimmer to touch first and go faster than the A team – while we are one club it was fair to say all B team kids pushed the A team very hard

Special mention to Evie Phillips, Charlotte Rumsby and Joe Mlyrea who have swam at the club a number of years and last night made their debuts in league galas – many of the B team made Autumn League debuts and the double age groupings made putting in a B team essential to give so many of our talented kids a swim in a gala.

The next round is on November 10th – please look out for invites as we are keen to build on this success – the Top 8 teams attend the main final and we hope for a kind draw to help the A team make it for a third year on the trot – with the B team now looking like they are going for a mid table finish ( which our A team could not do back in 2013)!!!!
