After a nice summer break – longer for some than others due to holidays –16 BASC kids went to the highly impressive Olympic style Ponds Forge for the next open meet of the calendar year. The venue had recently hosted the British Trials that had been used to select the team that took part in the World Championships – so for our 16 kids plus 2 older kids (Simon and Ian) to get a dip in such an amazing pool is a treat every year for the club.
This meet comes so soon after a summer breakdown that training has been limited leading into this meet – but we still saw some amazing times and a great team spirit in the relays that this unique meet offers up.
Prizes went to top 6 in all ages in all strokes – kids have all four strokes and 50m or 100m to choose from. Plus at the end of each session a series of relays at ages 10,12, 14 and Golden Oldies (well BASC met that criteria ) with the top 3 teams getting a medal.
Special mention to Jane and Suzanne who at the last minute acted as stewards for this meet – in doing so helping the meet avoiding last minute cancellation and also giving up the chance to watch their own kids swim – huge thank you to them both!!!!
Ruby Welsford – age 10
An amazing day for one of our emerging talents – Ruby managed another meet where she not only took PB times she also achieved medal winning swims. The highlight was the county qualifying time she swam in 50m Back.
Charlotte Moorby – age 10
A busy day for Charlotte as she took on 6 events and tried a few new 100m events on this occasion. She also took part in the age 10 girls relay with her team mates.
Amelie Brown– age 10
A first swim in a 50m pool – and what a success story – 4 swims and 4 huge PB’s – and probably the best dancing seen on the starting blocks at this venue – while Adam Peaty may beat his chest I think Amelie’s dancing and smiling is loads better!!!
Rachael Greener – age 10
Another good meet with Rebecca Custard Greener – new PB times as she swam in a 50m pool for the first time – and also got a medal in the girls relay team.
Ella Cooper – age 11
Only days after landing back from the beach Ella had a great day swimming 6 ind races Some good PB times during a tiring day and 3 more medals to take her to joint first in the girls medal table this year.
Izzy Stanley – age 11
Izzy came on the train with her chums and took part in 6 races on the day – 4 in the morning session and 2 in the afternoon. She also anchored the girls age 12 relay team to a 4th place finish missing a medal by less than half a second.
Aidan Joubert – age 11
With his sun tan glowing after having arrived back from Holiday only 48 hours before the gala Aidan took on 6 races despite no training since July – he still came home with 2 more medals as he and Jack continue to set a blazing trial in medals for the boys this year.
Charlotte Breeze – age 12
Her first meet in a 50m pool did not Charlotte taking her first medal in an open meet with a great swim in the 100m fly in front of a cheering mum and dad.
Noah O’Brien – age 12
Noah enjoyed a great day – he swam some amazing new PB times including a huge PB in his new favourite stroke of fly – it even earned him some new goggles!!!
Sophie Fowkes – age 12
Sophie had a couple of duels with other BASC girls – but her highlight was the medal in 100m fly – but a huge new PB in 100m free was also a good performance on the day.
Jack Ward – age 13
JOINT STAR SWIMMER – Our only swimmer to always get a medal at every meet – where they have swam most meets – did not fail to deliver – a haul of 5 medals was a great day for Jack plus a couple of new PB times
George Greener – age 13
Consistent all day –missing medals by narrow margins – he was always in the top 10 in every event – great days swimming highlighted by his medal in the 100m fly event he specializes in now.
Finley Brown – age 14
JOINT STAR SWIMMER – 4 swims and 4 medals plus 2 new county times for one of our most improved swimmers over the last 12 months. We look forward to him continuing to improve and make his debut in the Autumn League in October.
Immy Hill – age 15
Immy swam new PB times in nearly every race – a 2 second improvement in her 100m free time the highlight in front of her own personal travelling barmy army of supporting relatives
Matt Gates – age 15
Matt had another great day – taking top 6 places in 3 events despite being in the very competitive open section for the first time at this meet. He also put his relay team into medal contention before the masterclass of stroke over speed began!!!!
Finlay Bell – age 15
This was his first open meet in a 50m pool – and Fin went home with an amazing county time in the 50m free to show for his 4 consistent swims on the day
In addition to the kids Coaches Simon and Ian also got wet in the relays.. We came second in the age 14 boys , 3rd in the age 10 girls, 4th in the age 12 girls – and the open team knocked an amazing 13 seconds off the time from a year ago ( not all of that was Matt to be fair)
In total we won 22 MEDALS in individual races and 8 in RELAYS – great stuff from all of them – we had 32 PB times and 4 new COUNTY times to take us to 54 already this year.
With 2 more open meets, a charity gala and time trials, we still have a very busy month ahead.
Thank you to all parents for the support and as always to Simon /Ian for the advice and support they give all the kids.
We now have 120 medals from the first 5 meets of the year – a massive haul by the kids
