STAFFS COUNTY CHAMPS 2019 – MASTERS

A few short weeks after the kids came home with plenty of PB times, final places and medals etc the same venue was used for the Masters Competition. Since the club commenced a Masters section a few have considered entry, but this year we saw our largest contingent so far from BASC at the event.

The meet doubles up as an open for all who wish to participate and the staffs county masters for just the staffs clubs swimmers. Swimmers are put in age bands – they can tell you which ones they swam in – but fair to say Paige , Oliver and Callan are not wrinklies!!!!

Highlights for all 8 of our merry band are below

Simon Ward

8 events for our joint head coach – his medal tally for top 3 places in Staffordshire this year was 2 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze

A year of being county champion in 25m free and 100m free in his age group lies ahead!!!

Ian Gates

6 events for our second joint head coach to swim in the meet – taking medals in all 6 events for an amazing meet – 5 Silver medals and 1 bronze medal – a great time in the 100m breast his highlight swim

Callan Dawson

STAR SWIMMER – though they are all stars for having a good go – with 2 Gold medals, 1 Silver and a Bronze from his 4 races – all swam in good times to show how much hard work he has put in during 2018. The Gold medals came in 50m Fly and 100m Free

Paige Colling

6 events this year for Paige after her debut last year – an amazing Gold medal in 25m free to put alongside her bronze medal in 50m free

Pete Stevens

After a break of a couple of years the ex-champion was back to have another go – 4 races gained Pete 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals – his stand out race being the silver in 50m fly

Oliver Hill

A great debut for Oliver – 5 races gaining him 4 medals – County Champion status was achieved in the family favourite stroke of breast over 25m and 100m.

Jenny Cooke

Another to have a fantastic debut – 4 medals from 5 events for an ex club captain – taking Gold medal in 50m fly – the event a few weeks earlier her eldest child had done so well at counties.

Martin Brown

2 races for Martin in session 1 of the event – taking 4th place twice and pushing other BASC swimmers in the same age group

All 8 had a great day – and will look to encourage a few more to join them in 2020 – as they left Stafford with 28 top 3 county places between them.
