Bourchier Shield Gala : Times & Report
Uttoxeter Leisure Centre, Uttoxeter, 15th September 2018
A week after the Duel in the Pool we saw a team of swimmers enter the Bourchier Shield Gala at Uttoxeter. This gala was used to give a selection of swimmer’s experience before we started the Autumn League season, with BASC expanding to two teams in the League for the first ever time in 2018.
This gala was for 5 age groups, being ages 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14, with races being over all 4 strokes, the relays being a mixed boys/girls per age group. All races had a ‘speeding limit’ time to add to the friendly nature.
In addition to host club Dove Valley we faced Heath SC from the Cannock area in the 5 lane pool, within the recently refurbished Leisure Centre. Issy Stanley and Noah O’Brien captained the team on the night, with Andy Hiatt, Jo Stimpson and Sophie Fowkes coaching the team. Lee Frost and Simon Smith took over the team manager role, being assisted poolside by Rachel and Jenny. Debbie Preston was our official on the night, with Paul, Jane and Dave helping with all the times to add to our database re team selections.
A great night of swimming by some of our more inexperienced swimmers saw us do well over the 50 plus races. We gained 49 PB times and only one DQ as all the kids swam their hearts out.

STAR SWIMMER – JOINT AWARD – given to the two swimmers who smashed PB times to win and speed – Toby Durkan and Jaina Muogbo.
STAR RACE – JOINT AWARD – given to Freya Smith for her gripping photo finish win and Charlie Miller who, back from injury, raced the older girls down over 50m fly.
