Over two gruelling days 18 BASC kids had another stab at a long distance meet. With the meet coming soon after a summer break it was hard to judge for the swimmers on show how the distance training that section was currently utilizing would pay off.

The meet included the option over the 4 sessions to swim 50m, 100m and 200m in all strokes, plus 100m IM and 200m IM. With the county times window now in full flow we saw many swimmers with times already looking for extra times – with swimmers from the North West and North Wales this was a very competitive meet – but in most cases swimmers picked events per session as all kids tried to peak for a medal/PB/Qualification time

They all showed great determination and nearly every child swam either a PB or gained the required top 3 place to earn a medal.

Aidan Joubert – STAR SWIMMER – 9 races and 9 top 3 medals – plus adding to his County QT haul and PB’s within his races – he never tired despite all his different events over all distances and all strokes – a great meet for Aidan

Amelie Brown – 4 races for the Personal Assistant of her big brother!!! Her highlight being taking on 100m back and free for the first time and setting great times

Charlie Miller – Charlie took 3 more medals from this meet to move to joint 3rd in our open meet table with Rosie – she collected PB times within her races and knocked more time off her 200m Breast County QT

Charlie Moorby – Charlie took her first ever individual open meet medal with a great swim over 100n Fly – she also took PB times in some of her other races on a busy weekend for Charlie

Ella Cooper – Ella took on a new event in the 200m breast and also had a great duel with Rosie over 100m back – 4 more medals and 2 more county times on this occasion for Ella

Finley Brown – Finley took on all 4 strokes over the 200m distance – his first race was a county QT in the 200m back (thanks to Ian for the scissors to enable Finley to escape his chair!!!!) – and he ended the meet with a 200m QT in 200m fly in a great swim

George Greener – George had some great swims on his day at Stoke – the highlight being his first place in 100m Fly in a new PB time

Immy Hill – Immy smashed her PB in 200 free before going on to swim solid times in 3 other events during her day at Stoke

Bella Smith – The only open meet debutant at this meet put in a great time in her 50m back event

Izzy Stanley – Izzy took 2 medals for the first time in an open meet – her races included some huge PB times and lots of smiles

Rachael Greener – Rachael swam another big PB on 50m Fly and followed up with solid swims during her day at Stoke

Rosie Bolton – 4 races and 4 medals for Rosie took her to joint 3rd in our girls open meet table – a great couple of races against Sophie and Ella as the girls all pushed each other on during the meet

Ruby Welsford – a huge PB in 100m breast and a first place in 50m back the highlight for Ruby at Stoke on day 1

Tom Mitchell – Tom missed football to attend day 2 of the meet – he had some great races with Aidan and took home 3 medals during his races – highlight being the huge PB in 100m back

Sophie Fowkes – our busiest swimmer over the two days led to Sophie getting 5 top 3 places and some new PB times in her free style events – the 50m back race with Rosie was a classic with only 0.01 seconds between the 2 girls at the end

Jack Ward – 7 medals from his 8 races saw Jack cement his place at the top with Aidan of the open meet table – he gained new county QT in 200m IM and 50m Breast as highlights from a busy weekend

George Stevens – 3 medals on day 1 at Stoke for George – the highlight being the new PB and county time in the 100m fly

Emma Brown – Emma was one of the few girls to try all strokes this weekend – her highlights being taking on her less preferred strokes of back and fly over 100m!!!

Matt Gates – Another great open meet for Matt – gaining medals in the open age group in a meet that attracts the best from Staffordshire was a great achievement – moving him up to 3rd in the boys table – his county QT in 200m back the highlight

As always massive thank you to Simon and Ian for the guidance, assurance and fun they put into the two days – to Craig and Martin for representing the club as an official – and all the parents for cheering the 18 kids on yet another great open meet adventure.

In total we gained TOP 10 places in an amazing 90% of our races – we took 49 medals and 59 PB times – and added 12 county times to put the cherry on top of the cake – and we now have a record 19 different kids who have won a medal now at a 2017 Open Meet
