Hello all, I hope everyone has had a refreshing and relaxing break. We have a busy few months ahead so please make sure some of the dates below are in your diary.
Wednesday 2nd September
This is the date we are moving everyone up to new sessions. If your swimmer has been moved up please make sure you are aware of their new sessions. If you are unsure please get in touch.
Wednesday 9th September
25m sprint tests. These are really important that your swimmer attends if possible. All sections apart from seniors will be taking part and they are used as an indication of team selection and club champs heats.
Saturday 12th September
Charity diddy gala. This will be the second year we have held this event and invites have gone out to swimmers. The event is 12 and under. If you would like to come along to watch all door money is being donated to St Giles hospice this year.
Wednesday 16th September
There will be NO swimming this night as we are lucky enough to have a visit from Fred Furniss. Fred is part of the team GB coaching squad and he has kindly agreed to talk to swimmers, parents and coaches about training, competing and other areas of the sport. He has been working closely with Ian and Simon to help develop our programme over all sections of the club. We would love to have as many swimmers and parents attend as possible. We will be meeting at 7.30 pm in the large studio at the Meadowside.
Sunday 4th October
This is our Bridge to Bridge event. Our biggest fundraiser. The event is open to teams and individuals. It is 60 lengths of the Meadowside and prizes are awarded for fastest swimmers and teams. Please think seriously about entering a team. if your swimmer should like to take part but is unsure how to enter please ge tin touch with myself or Steve. We will be sorting teams out very shortly. Your swimmer will be receiving raffle ticket books to sell very shortly. please make an effort to sell these to family and friends, especially if you are unable to take part.
Friday 27th & Saturday 28th November
The biggest two nights of the year for BASC. This is our club champs night. We would like to see as many swimmers as possible enter this year. We are holding a heat declared winner system again this year. Thank you to all who replied to my request for feedback. We are going to change the format slightly with different races appearing on different nights. We are also going to be running seeded heats over several age groups. This may mean younger swimmers swimming with older swimmers. We are having a go to see if it works. It might not! This is the format an open meet takes. Medals and trophies will still be awarded to the winners of age groups as before. We hope to have a similar fun atmosphere like duel in the pool, so please encourage your swimmers to enter.
Friday 18th December
Break up for Christmas.
Please could I draw your attention to the following few things…
Parents of Swimmers under 12 or in NTP4, 5, 6, 7 or 8
Parents of swimmers in these sections should not be leaving their swimming unattended at either Repton or Meadowside. if you do need to leave the building, you must let coaches or the front desk know. We have had a few incidents where swimmers have needed their parents and we have been unable to get hold of them.
Code of Conduct
Sam is reissuing code of conducts to swimmers. We spent a long time trying to make it as simple as possible whilst protecting all at the club. We need swimmers and parents to abide by the code, as well as all associated with the club.
Please could seniors not go poolside in their running shoes, or come onto poolside earlier than needed. Younger swimmers can find it distracting have you on poolside whilst trying to listen to coaches. If you are asked to leave, please do it as quickly and quietly as possible. We aren’t being awkward there is a place for conversations and messing about and it isn’t poolside
Election of New Committee
Tuesday 8th December is the date of our AGM. if you are interested in joining our committee please get in touch
As our club champsis approaching we desperately need help from parents to help it run smoothly. Rob Lambey does a brilliant ob with his band of white ensuring that we have timekeepers, judges, and other officials. The coaches are great ensuring swimmers get feedback after their races and advice before. We are a little short on volunteers fro the other jobs such as sending swimmers to their races and ensuring officials have drinks etc. If you are interested in helping out please let me know as without the extra help we can not put on such a good show and this is the highlight of BASC year.
We are sorry to be saying goodbye to Kelly our coach in the teaching pool. She is off to University in September. Sam will be taking over the coaching in the teaching pool. I’m sure you will join me in wishing Kelly good luck and I am sure we will see her back training with seniors in the holidays!
Thanks for taking the time to read. Once again if there is any problems please come and see me either on the front desk or near the teaching pool.
